Great nose with wild strawberries and raspberries. Some blueberry and violets. Opens up with fresh leather and chocolate. Full-bodied and very well put together with super silky tannins and great vibrant finish. Drinks really well already now and difficult to wait! Try after 2018.

Bright crimson. Very rich and sweet - something of the pâtissière on the nose here. Broad and very polished with a savoury meaty undertow. Pretty interesting wine with some intensity but real savour. Muscular sheen to it. A more aerienne Pomerol than many. Long. 17 out of 20

Truffle, 5 spice, jammy black raspberry, licorice and cocoa powder aromas open to a , refined, elegant, polished Pomerol. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice and raspberry find their way to the finish which builds in intensity.

Tasted at the offices of Ets J-P Moueix, the Providence has a very well defined bouquet that offers ripe red berry fruit: raspberry, kirsch, dark plum and a touch of graphite. It takes time to open, but it is worth the wait. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, succulent tannins. This Providence is one Pomerol that actually reminds me of the 2009 in terms of generosity. There is superb ripeness and focus on the finish, although the acidity cancels that out to leave it finely poised. This has great potential.

It has closed down to some extent, but the 2010 La Providence is made in a distinctive style with meaty charcuterie notes intermixed with spicy pepper, black currants, mocha, espresso roast and forest floor. This full-bodied, dense, rich wine was difficult to penetrate, but nevertheless, it has impressive richness, texture and length. The relatively high tannins suggest forgetting it for 5-6 years of cellaring, but it should last for 25-30 years. 92+

Both rich and dense, this wine shows the ripeness of the Merlot in 2010. It has firm fruit, touches of dark chocolate and licorice. With its concentration, this small vineyard is now in good form, producing ageworthy wines. -R.V.

This is packed with fruit, but maintains a restrained feel overall, as the core of plum, blackberry and black currant seems content to wait for now. Richly layered, displaying seamless graphite and black tea notes that frame the finish, with a lovely tug of loam echoing on the very end. An impressive combination of density and polished poise. Best from 2016 through 2030. -JM
