Note: from purchased fruit and released under the Maison Virgile Lignier label. Soft wood serves as a background foil for the complex mélange of red and dark berries that also evidences notes of spice, earth and a hint of smoke. The medium weight plus flavors are exceptionally rich with impressive mid-palate concentration that coats the palate with dry extract before terminating in an admirably persistent finish. This is a lovely combination of power and finesse.

The 2010 Clos St. Denis is gorgeous. Layers of dark fruit, minerals, spices and licorice take shape in this striking, multi-dimensional Burgundy. The Clos St. Denis is at once powerful yet also delicate, but ultimately it is the more refined side of the wine's personality that comes through most eloquently. The creamy, expansive finish is totally striking. The Clos St. Denis is made from equal parts estate and purchased grapes. This is one of the finest wines I have ever tasted from Virgile Lignier. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. --- Antonio Galloni

(just one barrel; vinified with 50% whole clusters): Good full red. Sexy, perfumed aromas of blackberry, mocha, dried flowers and underbrush. Silky-sweet, creamy and stuffed with fruit; really saturates the palate with flavor. Finishes with fine-grained, noble tannins and exhilarating savory and floral naunces. Very Clos Saint-Denis. A portion of these vines were planted in 2003!
