Closed nose at first with some dark chocolate and animal notes. A smoky touch and violets. Velvety on the palate with pure ripe dark fruit and soft texture. Smooth and polished tannins that need a bit of time to integrate fully. Drink from 2015.

Lucia comes from a 3.06-hectare vineyard, part of which was planted in 1901 to 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The wine expresses licorice, black cherry and spice aromas. Plushly textured and filled with ripe jammy berries, with its open style, this wine should be fun to drink shortly after release.

90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. This 3-hectare vineyard is split into sections, one planted in 1901 in clay and limestone soils across the road from Grand Pontet; two other 40-year old plots located near Monbousquet in clay and siliceous soil. Net yields were just 26 hls/ha in 2010. Aging takes place in 60% new and 40% one-wine old barrels. The Lucia features aromas of spice, red and black fruit and roasted herbs. The medium-bodied palate showcases flavors of cassis, plum and boysenberry, and the tannin and acidity have come together in a fine way that should resolve once bottled. This perennial favorite is set for a long life given the tannins and acidic nature of the wine. Drink from 2015-2025. Stéphane Derenoncourt, who created this wine with owner Michel Bortolussi, consults.

This opulent, full-bodied wine does not show much complexity, but it offers loads of fruit, glycerin and light tannins in a straightforward yet very satisfying style. Drink it over the next decade. 89+ -Robert Parker

Frankly woodsy in style, offering lots of roasted apple wood and toasted bread notes, backed by dense, slightly chewy-textured plum skin, blackberry compote and black currant paste flavors. The toasty edge holds sway on the finish. Has the guts for some cellaring, but should appeal to fans of the more brawny style. Best from 2015 through 2028. -JM
