about this wine:
"Monbousquet is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks and the wine is then aged in 100% new oak barrels for 18 months. Monbousquet is bottled unfined and unfiltered...Mature open nose of mulberries and wet straw. A little dry on the palate with mature tannins. Well-structured with fine chewy black fruits. Quite spicy on the finish..."

Impressive concentration for this appellation with aromas of prunes, plums and black pepper. Full body, with round and velvety tannins and a long finish. Tight. Better after 2015.

60% merlot, 30% cabernet franc, 10% cabernet sauvignon. From a 32 hectare vineyard in the southwest part of the appellation, the vines average 40 years of age. Hand-harvested between and Oct. 6th and Oct. 19th, yields were 31 hls/ha. Aged in 60% new French oak and 40% one-wine-old barrels. This vintage has an intensely aromatic nose showcasing incredible minerality, as well as a sweet perfume that adds balance and complexity, making for a pleasant bouquet. A big yet well structured Monbousquet, the tannins are very well integrated and the finish is impressive and long. Best consumed after 2015, it will only continue to get better. A blend 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon cropped at 28hl/ha, this has a very intense nose of dark berried fruit that could do with a little more delineation. The palate is full-bodied with grippy tensile tannins, very powerful but I like the tension and mineralité coming though on the finish. It will take 8-10 years to really show its mettle, but great potential. Drink 2018-2030+

Bottle unfined and unfiltered, it exhibits notes of Christmas fruitcake, black raspberry, cedar wood and spice box and has a full-bodied, fleshy, succulent mouthfeel, sweet tannin and decent acidity along with the tell-tale purity that always seems to emerge from the Perse estates. This wine should drink beautifully for at least 12-15 or more years.

A lush, modern, style, with hyperdrive on the blueberry, loganberry and boysenberry fruit flavors. Nothing gets too heady though, as there's charcoal-studded grip, smoldering coffee grinds and roasted bay leaf notes all in the background for definition and further development with cellaring. Modern, yes, but firmly grounded in its terroir. Best from 2016 through 2035. - JM
