Ripe strawberries and vanilla. Some sweet tobacco and nutmeg. Round and full on the palate with really ripe, almost jammy fruit and soft fine tannins. Firm and juicy. Give this another two or three years of bottle age. Always excellent.
Jancis Robinson, April 2011
Polished and lively. Well done. Dry finish but appetising. Tasted 3 Apr: The Thienpont clan. Dark crimson. Easy, well balanced but not very ambitious. Nice, medium-everything wine.
Neil Mechanic, JJ Buckley, April 2011
70% merlot, 25% cabernet franc and 5% malbec. 30-year-old vines planted to clay and limestone with chalky subsoil. Yields were 35 hls/ha. Aging in 50% new, 50% one-wine-old barrels for about 15 months. Alcohol 14.5%. Ripe blackberry, cocoa and espresso permeate the nose. Sweet notes of crushed blackberry the core make for a generous mid-palate, wrapped in tobacco. Full tannins linger on the finish, providing tremendous staying power and layered structure and a sense that of precision even at this higher-than-normal alcohol level. Drink 2017-2025. 400 cases produced. of Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt manage the vineyards.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2011
2010: From the Thienpont family (which is almost as large as the Lurton family in Bordeaux), the 2010 Puygueraud (70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec) exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as abundant notes of damp earth, raspberries and blueberries. Medium-bodied and cleanly made, it is ideal for drinking over the next 5-6 years.

This is a harmonious mix of firm, extracted tannins and dense fruit. It has a dark, hard edge at this youthful stage, suggesting this is always going to be a wine that is tough. At the same time, it has weight and richness to support the structure. -R.V.

This has a solid frame, with graphite and roasted cedar holding the core of steeped plum and currant fruit together. A loam hint chimes in on the medium-weight finish. Drink now through 2015. -JM
