James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, February 2013

Spicy nose with coffee, mulberries and milk chocolate. Bright red fruit on palate with a wonderful sweetness and fine soft tannins. Dense and profound but very subtle at the same time. Beautifully structured and with good length. Very enjoyable now, but tannins will soften over the next two to three years. Better in 2016.

John Perry, JJ Buckley, April 2011

Difficult to evaluate on the nose - this sample may not have been quite ready to show. It seemed disjointed, with awkward apple, raisin and earth aromas, and very primary, grapey flavors. Texturally, this wine seemed fine, with a nice luscious silkiness. Underwhelming considering the great wines this property has made in the recent past. Judgment reserved.

Tasted at the Syndicat de Pomerol. The Rouget 2010 is very ripe and precocious on the nose with macerated dark cherries, orange essence, blueberry and a warm fug of alcohol. The palate is full-bodied with grippy tannins, very good fruit concentration and admirable linearity towards the finish lending good focus and tension. This is a very fine Rouget, one of Pomerol's ascending estates.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2013

An absolutely stunning example from this up-and-coming estate, which has been performing on all cylinders of late, the 2010 Rouget has a dense plum/purple color, a beautifully sweet, expansive nose of spice box and a touch of toasty oak as well as copious quantities of black currants, cherries and plum. Supple and full-bodied, with a powerful mouthfeel and a hint of graphite, this is a deep rich, full-throttle, very sexy and opulent Rouget to drink over the next 15 or more years.

Wine Spectator, March 2013

Dense, with good mouthfeel, offering notes of velvety, warm raspberry and boysenberry confiture. Kept lively by enticing spice, anise, bergamot and mandarin orange hints. The long, clove- and charcoal-studded finish glides along impressively. Best from 2015 through 2027. -JM

About Winery

Château Rouget, one of the oldest estates in Pomerol, belonged to M. Bayonne until 1804, who was for a long time mayor of the commune. In the second edition of "Bordeaux et ses Vins", published in 1868, this growth was ranked fifth. Since 1992, the Societe des Grands Vins de Pomerol has purchased Château Rouget from M. Brochet. This fine 16-hectare estate is situated on the gentle slope of the Pomerol plateau near the villiage of the ancient church. The vineyard is planted with the best selected grapes (85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc) on soil which is partly gravel, partly clayey-ferruginous and produces a wine remarkable for its richness, body and softness and which possesses to the highest degree the characteristic, highly fragrant bouquet of the great Pomerols. All these qualities rank Château Rouget among the great growths of Pomerol and explain the reputation it enjoys in France and abroad. It has been awarded the highest prizes at the various international exhibitions it has participated in. Very important building and renovation works have been carried out on the wine facilities. The whole of the production of Château Rouget and Vieux Château des Templiers is aged in oak.
