James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, February 2013

A dense and polished red with wonderfully integrated tannins and a mineral, flower, fruity character. It's full-bodied, and very reserved. I love the texture and finesse here. Best ever from here. From the owner of Pomerol's great L'Eglise Clinet. Try in 2018.

Jancis Robinson, April 2011

100% Merlot. Difficult to put into the sequence, said Denis Durantou when presening it because it is SO sweet and potent. Pretty rich at the start but then savoury. Dense and lively. Vigorous and slightly skinny so for early drinking. Very easy and charming, but a little dry and green on the end. Less than 90 IPT. This wine, which has hardly changed in price over the years, is likely to be GV - if you like the style...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, November 2012

The Saintayme 2010 is a pure Merlot from Denis Durantou from clayey-gravel soils. It has an exuberant, lively nose with hints of blood orange informing the red berry fruit. There is lovely definition evident here. The palate is medium-bodied with firm backbone. You would almost think there was some Cabernet Franc in here! Masculine, forthright, this is a sturdy but succinctly crafted Saint Emilion that is more intellectual that you would presuppose.

This is wonderfully pure and unadorned, with a thoroughly engaging, vibrant beam of linzer torte and steeped cherry notes coursing along, with only embers of singed spice and a twinge of licorice checking in on the finish, letting a minerality play out more instead. Very pretty. Drink now through 2022. -JM
