about this wine:
The northern sites of Kalimna and Ebenezer contribute juicy dark berry fruit and rich mocha flavours to the wine while western sites such as Seppeltsfield give Blackwell its muscular, brooding structure.

Deep colour, vivid purple hue; densely packed black fruits with a touch of fresh sage and mocha; the density is palpable on the palate, with the toasty oak weaving seamlessly in amongst the fruit; big, lavish and friendly and warm, if this wine could cuddle you, it probably would.

It's the acidity that I find distracting. It helps give the wine a refreshing quality but it also pokes out and distracts. It otherwise tastes of blackberry jubes and coffee grounds, woody herbs and cream. The fruit is black, the integration of oak excellent. It feels, for the most part, beautifully balanced. Ripe - and not overripe - and in the sweet spot flavour/weight-wise. The acidity had me scratching my head a little.
