A ripe, reticent and brooding nose features of spiced plum, black raspberry and red currant all suffused by ferrous earth nuances that also characterize the powerful, concentrated and exceptionally rich broad-shouldered flavors. Like the Corton, this is a very big wine with plenty of muscle and mouth coating tannins that will require all of 15 years to resolve. I very much like this as it's a Charmes of imposing size and weight along with explosive length yet it retains a fine sense of harmony and balance. It's one for of the back of the cellar though. Drink: 2025+ - Comments: Don't miss!

The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin is mysterious, engaging and beautiful. Freshly cut roses, sweet red berries, spices and licorice are some of the nuances that are woven together in this impeccable, silky wine. There is no beginning and no end, just a pure expression of one of Burgundy's greatest sites. This is a totally understated, gracious Charmes endowed with tons of harmony and pure class. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. --- Antonio Galloni

About Winery

Beginning in 1999, a shift in responsibilities took place Chez Taupenot Merme - with the 7th generation taking over - and a host of viticultural changes were introduced. As these improvements were implemented, the wines benefited from greater personalities ("terroir"), deeper colors, more refined perfumes, and textures rendering the wines drinkable throughout their life cycles. Guided by a desire for purity, Romain and his sister Virginie:
    Completed the conversion to organics
    Experiment with "chauffage post fermentaire" (which gently extracts "noble" tannins)
    Work with 100% destemmed fruit (ala Henri Jayer)
    Rack their wines into oak for 12-15 months  of fine lees contact
    Reduced the amount of new oak (maximum of 40% for Grand Crus)
Including their less-than-barrique-sized quantity of Clos des Lambrays, this 30 acre estate is poised to be a leading domaine of the Cote.
