Deft wood frames a nose that is reasonably similar to that of the Charmes but here there is a more obvious sauvage character. This is also impressively broad-scaled with an overt muscularity to the almost painfully intense flavors yet somewhat surprisingly, they are no more structured. The underlying sense of tension is palpable and this exceptionally powerful wine culminates in a palate saturating finish of genuinely monumental length. In sum, this is a more dramatic wine than the Charmes but even so, it's not clear which one that time will favor. If you can find them and have the patience, I would suggest buying both as they should be sensational in due time. Drink: 2025+ - Comments: Don't miss!

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2012

The 2010 Mazoyeres-Chambertin boasts a haunting, impossibly elegant bouquet. Hints of dark cherry, espresso, licorice and spice develop in the glass, adding considerable depth but no weight whatsoever. The Mazoyeres remains light on its feet and impeccably refined. Sweet, candied notes resonate on the finish. Ultimately the Mazoyeres is all about textural finesse, and there is no shortage of that here. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. --- Antonio Galloni

About Winery

Beginning in 1999, a shift in responsibilities took place Chez Taupenot Merme - with the 7th generation taking over - and a host of viticultural changes were introduced. As these improvements were implemented, the wines benefited from greater personalities ("terroir"), deeper colors, more refined perfumes, and textures rendering the wines drinkable throughout their life cycles. Guided by a desire for purity, Romain and his sister Virginie:
    Completed the conversion to organics
Experiment with "chauffage post fermentaire" (which gently extracts "noble" tannins)
Work with 100% destemmed fruit (ala Henri Jayer)
Rack their wines into oak for 12-15 months  of fine lees contact
Reduced the amount of new oak (maximum of 40% for Grand Crus)
Including their less-than-barrique-sized quantity of Clos des Lambrays, this 30 acre estate is poised to be a leading domaine of the Cote.
