One of the most consistent values in Bordeaux has long been Chateau Thieuley. Their 2010 is a soft, classic Bordeaux revealing notes of berry fruit, tobacco leaf and spice box. Drink this medium-bodied effort over the next 3-4 years.

Dark purple. Aromas of blackcurrant, cedar and minerals. Juicy and clean, with very good cut and energy to the black fruit, coffee and graphite flavors. Finishes with sweet but firm tannins, solid spine and good length. A nice showing for what is an inexpensive entry-level wine. -Ian D'Agata

This has a good briary frame that adds vivacity to the core of loganberry and plum fruit, with a licorice snap edge enlivening the finish. Juicy and fun, with good stuffing on the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2014. -JM
