Blueberries and chocolate aromas in this wine. Sliced mushroom. Full body, with extremely well-integrated tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Firm and beautiful. Better after 2016.

2010 Vrai Canon Bouche (Canon-Fronsac) - 95% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 2% malbec. 60% new and 40% one-wine-old oak barrels. Grown on a high limestone plateau. Yields were only 20 hls/ha. Alcohol at 14.5%. A lovely perfume of spice is absolutely mouthwatering, while the palate shows off great viscosity with candied blackberry, black plum, cranberry, black olives and worked leather. Very modern approach. Drink 2014 to 2022. Stéphane Derenoncourt consults.

Yields were absurdly low at 20 hectoliters per hectare, and the final blend of 95% Merlot and the rest small dosages of Cabernet Franc and Malbec came in at 14.5% natural alcohol. Opaque blue/purple, the unmistakable notes of wet rock, blueberry liqueur, spring flower garden, crushed chalk and earth are all present in this full-bodied, seriously endowed, over-achieving Fronsac, It is built for the long haul, so consumers would be well-advised to forget it for several years and drink it over the following 10-15, possibly even 20.
Stephane Derenoncourt is the consultant for this wine, which has really come on over the last half dozen years and is now routinely one of the great wines of this somewhat under-the-radar appellation.

A cocoa powder note coats the core of plum, bitter cherry and raspberry, leaving a lightly taut feel as a bright iron note helps extend the finish. Fresh and pure. Drink now through 2017. -JM
