Andy Frieden, JJ Buckley, April 2012

85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, and 5% cabernet sauvignon. This 30 hectare vineyard is planted on the limestone plateau and clay and limestone hillsides. Average vine age is 30 years. The wine is aged 12 months in new oak from five coopers. 14% alcohol. This inky purple colored effort has good intensity of perfumed spring flowers and cherry blossom with red and black fruits and some soil aromas. Ripe black plum and black cherry flavor the mid-palate, However, the finish turns a bit tannic and bitter. Tasted twice. Michel Rolland consults. 10,000 cases produced.

Blueberry and floral aromas. Medium body, with chewy tannins and a tangy finish. Plenty of mineral character and orange undertones. 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

88 -91 points,

Wine Spectator, April 2012

On the exotic side, with rather ripe blueberry, açaí berry and chocolate notes allied to a rich, creamy frame. Ample toast on the finish, but it's integrated in texture. Seems to have pulled off an ambitious style for this vintage.-J.M.

About Winery

Chateau Faugeres is situated on the sunny slopes of the Dordogne valley, 6 KM east of Saint-Emillion, in one of the most beautiful winegrowing sites tn the Bordeaux region. The city of Saint-Emilion and its environs were added to the list of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites in 1999. Before being acquired by Silvio Denz in April 2005, Chateau Faugeres had been in the ownership of the Pierre-Bernard Guisez family since 1823. The Vineyards, covering approximately 80 hectares, surround an 18th-century carthsian monastery and are divided between two AOCs: Saint-Emillion (49 hectares) and Cotes de Castillon (31 hectares). After 18 years devoted to the renaissance of Chateau Faugeres, their objective remains the same: to go even further in terms of quality.
