80% semillon, 20% sauvignon blanc. Barrel fermented, then aged in 15% new oak for 30-36 months. The vines are planted on mixed clay and gravel soils. Light greenish gold color. Exotic nose, with mango, vanilla bean, and beeswax aromas, plus a touch of saffron spice. This has a wonderful, thick texture that coats the mouth yet maintains fresh lemon acidity that gives precision to the richness, with riper notes of apricot, orange marmalade, and hints of spice from the botrytis. Enjoy over the next 15 years. This chateau is owned by the Lur-Suluces family, former owners of Chateau d'Yquem.

The 2011 de Fargues has a delicate, perhaps slightly more malic bouquet than I was expecting. At present, it is a little more disjointed than its peers although I am sure it will become more cohesive throughout its maturation. The palate shows its true potential: medium-bodied with great tension on the spice-tinged entry. It is cohesive and mellifluous, although at present it does not have the depth or weight of a top flight de Fargues. However, it is precise and beautifully defined on the finish. Drink 2015-2030+.

Bright golden yellow. Exotic, full-blown aromas of apricot, pineapple syrup, honey, marzipan and crepe suzette. Thick, fat and honeyed, but with excellent lift to its opulent flavors of apricot, yellow peach and honeycomb complicated by coconut, caramel and vanilla nuances. This very dense wine features penetrating acidity that provides sharp definition and lift on the very long finish. Lately, Alexandre de Lur Saluces has been making opulent wines at de Fargues that remind me of the Yquem vintages he made in years past.

A smooth and rich wine that also shows depth of flavor. Wrapped in its tight texture are notes of peach and mango, bitter orange and lemon zest. It's a fine wine that should age for many years. - R.V.

Still quite raw, with loads of apricot, ginger, green plum, date and papaya flavors that are not yet melded together. Shows ample toasted almond and honey notes on the finish, with terrific depth and power. Very long. There's loads here, but this has a long way to go.-J.M.
