James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, April 2012

A little chewy and austere with some very pretty blueberry and currant character. Medium to full body, with fresh acidity and a clean finish. Minerally. Will fill in nicely with elevage. 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet

Jeff Loo, JJ Buckley, April 2012

85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon. From a 49-hectare parcel east of the town of St. Emilion, soils are clay-limestone. Average vine age is 35+ years. Purple core with a red rim. Plentiful cardamom and other spices on the nose, along with red fruit and limestone aromas. Medium bodied, the palate features ripe cherry and strawberry flavors, somewhat grippy tannins, and a consistent backbone of acidity that carries through to the finish. Needs time. Try in 5-6 years and over the following 10 years.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2012

The impressively endowed 2011 Faugeres is a big wine for the vintage, boasting an opaque ruby/purple color as well as notes of creosote, black currants, blueberries, coffee beans and toasty oak. This modern-styled, full-bodied, pure, textured, long St.-Emilion's zesty acidity gives freshness and vibrancy to this big wine. It tips the scales at 14% natural alcohol, and is a blend of 85% Merlot with the rest primarily Cabernet Franc and a tiny bit of Cabernet Sauvignon. It should evolve for 15-20 years.

One of the up-and-coming stars of St.-Emilion, Faugeres is owned by Swiss entrepreneur, Silvio Benz (also the owner of the Lalique crystal company).

This wine shows mint and spice flavors, new wood and soft tannins. Fruity, attractively forward and ripe. - R.V.

Wine Spectator, April 2012

Very lush yet pure, offering terrific mouthfeel to the boysenberry, plum and cassis fruit flavors that are well-focused through the finish, with floral and red licorice hints checking in. This is off to a lovely start.-J.M.

About Winery

Chateau Faugeres is situated on the sunny slopes of the Dordogne valley, 6 KM east of Saint-Emillion, in one of the most beautiful winegrowing sites tn the Bordeaux region. The city of Saint-Emilion and its environs were added to the list of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites in 1999. Before being acquired by Silvio Denz in April 2005, Chateau Faugeres had been in the ownership of the Pierre-Bernard Guisez family since 1823. The Vineyards, covering approximately 80 hectares, surround an 18th-century carthsian monastery and are divided between two AOCs: Saint-Emillion (49 hectares) and Cotes de Castillon (31 hectares). After 18 years devoted to the renaissance of Chateau Faugeres, their objective remains the same: to go even further in terms of quality. New proprietor Silvio Denz's goal is to take quality to an even higher level, thus he has hired both Michel Rolland and Stephan von Neipperg as winemaking consultants.
