A pretty red with silky tannins and berry, citrus fruit character. Medium body. Fine tannins. Balanced and delicate. May be better in bottle?
Neil Mechanic, JJ Buckley, April 2012
100% merlot grown on a 7.5 acre parcel within the Croix de Gay vineyard. Vines range from 20 to 30 years in age, planted in a unique gravel and clay sub-soil. Malolactic and aging takes place in 100% new oak barriques for 6 to 18 months. Under the direction of Alain Raynaud, La Fleur de Gay continues its streak of silky and pure wines. The palate displays smoke and minerality that carries the black raspberry and chocolate notes from the entry through the finish. Concentrated, with a long, silky and polished finish, this displays an elegance not found in many wines from the appellation. Enjoy 2015-2030.

Like its stablemate La Croix de Gay, this once 7.5-acre vineyard has shrunk to only 5 acres after one hectare was sold to the Rothschilds' Chateau l'Evangile. Consequently, the production of La Fleur de Gay is smaller than ever. The opaque ruby/purple-colored 2011 (100% Merlot) offers notes of mulberries, black raspberries and cassis, terrific fruit, espresso, mocha and coffee beans. Coming in at 13.5% natural alcohol, it should evolve for 12-15 years. 90-93+

Offers an almost opulent feel, with velvety texture and dark currant, fig and blackberry fruit flavors well-studded with black tea and anise. This has nice weight, with just some toast to soak up in the end.-J.M.
