Orange peel with dark berries and chocolate undertones on the nose. Full body, with super integrated tannins and a pretty fruit finish. A balanced and refined wine. Polished character.

Tasted at JP Moueix, the Providence 2011 has a precocious bouquet with dark cherries, crème de cassis and a touch of fig and apricot. Complex and exuberant, this is a more modern style of Pomerol but it retains fine delineation and focus. The palate is medium bodied with rounded tannins, a sense of sumptuousness and sensuality. Very well balanced, its red fruits caress the mouth and linger long. Oh là là! Tasted April 2012.

Neil Mechanic, JJ Buckley, April 2012

Planted to 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. One of the Moueix family's most recent acquisitions, this 10-acre estate is situated in the center of Pomerol on a combination of clay and gravel soils. Medium purple color. At first analysis, this is the most `New World' interpretation of the Pomerol appellation. Candied cherry on entry transitions to cherry pie and subtle cinnamon and clove flavors. Licorice and crab apple notes enter on the juicy, soft mid-palate, with an overlay of earthy minerality. The finish is somewhat closed and slightly bitter, though this could very well be resolved when the final blend is bottled. Not at the level of 2009 or 2010. Only 1,250 cases produced. Enjoy 2015-2025.

The masculine, dense 2011 La Providence is not dissimilar from the great Trotanoy. It reveals a dense ruby/purple color, surprisingly deep, full-bodied fruit, more bulk, weight and richness than most wines from this vintage, and a long, moderately tannic finish. It will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring, and keep for two decades. 90-92+

Saturated medium ruby. Brooding nose features cassis and underbrush aromas lifted by bay leaf and rosemary. Bright, dense and suave, with plenty of rich, deep fruit and lovely floral persistence. Finishes with smooth tannins and compelling sweetness. A very successful Pomerol in 2011.

Wine Spectator, April 2012

Offers a very solid, plump core of blackberry and crushed cherry notes, with sweet spice filling in on the finish, where a lightly singed wood edge shows through and should integrate with further élevage. Still rather youthfully primal, but good material.-J.M.
