A restrained, sophisticated and quite complex Sauvingon Blanc with a subtle influence of barrel fermentation that slightly dampens fruit flavour but adds an extra dimension to the wine. After an initial hint of sweetness the wine appears to be bone-dry but certainly not austere. A stylish statement from one of New Zealand's leading winemakers.

The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc opens with intense notes of ripe apple, passion fruit and cut grass with underlying hints of pea pods and capsicum. Nicely textured on the palate, with outstanding concentration and a backbone of refreshingly crisp acid, it finishes long and layered with good balance throughout. Drink it now to 2014. -Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Pale bright yellow. Subtle aromas of grapefruit pith, anise, fresh herbs and white pepper: a real essence of sauvignon blanc. Dusty, lively and intense; a refreshing wine with no excess weight. Offers good life in the mouth (there's still some CO2 to be absorbed) and a hint of earth on the finish.
