Pretty blueberry and chocolate character. Medium to full body, with fine tannins and a chocolate, spice and almond. Delicate style. 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

The La Conseillante is a blend of 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. It has a very well defined bouquet with attractive dark berry and mulberry aromas, the terroir really coming through with subtle notes of black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied and I think Jean-Michel has really achieved very the filigree tannins this year, rendering this the most feminine La Conseillante I have tasted. It is silky smooth and yet there is certainly a tensile structure that should see it age nicely over 15-20 years. It is very composed, almost understated towards the finish, but this shows great persistency in the mouth without being overpowering. A "controlled" La Conseillante" with just a elegant, beautiful finish. Tasted April 2012.

82% merlot and 18% cabernet franc. From an 11.8-hectare estate situated at the apex of the Pomerol plateau near Petrus, Vieux Chateau Certan and L'Evangile. Average vine age is 40 years, planted in gray clay and sandy gravel on red clay subsoil at a density of 6,000 per hectare. Typical yields of 38-40 hl/ha. Dazzling bright purple, with a deep garnet hue. The 2011 is luscious and generous on the nose and palate. Lively peppered plum and vanilla spice jump out on the entry. Blackberry and mocha notes mingle brilliantly in the glass with pepper and cola nut flavors coming to the forefront on the second wave. Generous, lively, and softly enveloping on the back end, this shows sweet creaminess and elegance, with a mouthwatering, minerally-dry finish. Give this a few years and enjoy through 2030. "En Primeur" consensus: a standout for the village! 3,500-4,500 cases produced.

Made in the elegant, finesse-filled Bordeaux style, the 2011 La Conseillante displays a deep ruby/purple color along with hints of acacia blossoms intermixed with sweet cherry and mulberry fruit backed up by subtle toasty oak. Attractive on the attack and medium-bodied with good acidity, the 2011 is not a blockbuster such as we saw in 2009 and 2010, but it may resemble the estate's top-flight 1981 (a so-so year in which La Conseillante produced a delicious wine). It will provide early drinking and should last for 10-12 years.

Shows the elegant, caressing fruit of the vintage, with supple cassis, blackberry and cherry compote notes, while harnessing the lively acidity and burying it nicely in toast- and black tea-infused wood. Features a classy, silky finish.-J.M.

About Winery

Château La Conseillante is amongst the crème de la crème of Pomerol producers. It can trace its history back to 1735 and has been in the hands of the Nicolas family since 1874. La Conseillante's 13 hectares of vineyards are located on a plateau in eastern Pomerol on the boundary with the St-Emilion appellation. Its vineyards border those of L`Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château-Certan and Cheval Blanc. La Conseillante is a blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. The grapes are harvested by hand and are then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged in small oak casks (90% new) for 18-20 months. It is bottled unfiltered.
