2011 Cos d'Estournel Blanc Bordeaux Blanc

about this wine:
The vines that produce Cos d'Estournel Blanc are located in the north of the Médoc, in Jau-Dignac and Loirac.
The
vineyard's soil is made up mainly of sand and very clayey gravel with
pebbles, consisting of a clay-limestone base and a deep gravelly-clay
topsoil.
The geographical location of Cos d'Estournel Blanc,
close to the Atlantic ocean, combined with the incredible width of the
estuary, provides the vines with exceptional coolness in the summer and a
welcome mildness in the spring and winter. All of these factors create
an ideal terroir for our two grape varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and
Sémillon, and give the wine freshness and a slightly exotic feel.
The
grapes are harvested by hand in several batches to ensure that they
only picked when they are completely ripe. After meticulous sorting, our
work is completed with a strictly controlled vinification process. The
lees are stirred regularly in order to enrich the wine's fruit content.
Fermentation is carried out in one-year-old barrels.

67% sauvignon blanc, 33% semillon. Barrel fermented and aged in 100% new oak. Pale straw color, with green notes. Grass, green pepper, and classic sauvignon blanc aromas combine with the richer semillon textures and flavors. Rich and aromatic, green and vibrant citrus notes permeate the palate with just enough acidity for a crisp finish. Enjoy upon release and over the following 7-8 years.

Structured white with a lemon curd and orange peel character. Full and juicy, with a savory character and a dense structure. Serious. 67% Sauvignon Blanc and 33% Semillon.

(a blend of 67% sauvignon blanc and 33% semillon; 6.8 grams per liter total acidity; 3.03 pH): Bright straw-yellow. Very sauvignon blanc nose of gooseberry, grapefruit and white flowers. Then more semillon-dominated in the mouth, displaying a rich texture and a waxy, white peach quality on the bright, fresh palate. This very successful white wine is crisp and fresh but also has sneaky concentration. Jean-Guillaume Prats told me that the northern exposure of the vines and their proximity to the Gironde allowed the white grapes to weather the two scorchingly hot days at the end of June. Made from fruit picked in three passes, on August 29, September 3 and September 10.

A creamy white, with verbena and sweet pea notes buried in a core of white peach, pineapple and grapefruit pulp flavors. The long, talcum powder-tinged finish sails on nicely. This lovely white has weight, but stays refreshing. Tasted non-blind.-J.M.
