90 -91 points,

James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, April 2012

Solid wine for the vintage with dark fruits and sweet tobacco. Full body, with silky tannins and a balanced finish.

Jeff Loo, JJ Buckley, April 2012

Planted to 90% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon on 18.5 hectares on the south hillside of St. Emilion. This bottling is sourced from the oldest vines on the property which date to 1954, planted in limestone, clay and sand. Purple core with a red rim. Aromas of blueberry jam, graphite, and spice shape the nose, along with fresh earth and mocha scents. The palate proves superb, showing balance, grippy tannins, and racy acidity. Dark ripe plum and vanilla flavors drive the finish. Give this 2-4 years after bottling and enjoy for the following 10-15. Drink 2015-2030.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2012

Since this estate was acquired by the Adams family of America, who hired consulting oenologist Michel Rolland, the quality has soared. The 2011 Fonplegade is another tour de force. It boasts an inky/blue/purple color in addition to copious notes of charcoal, camphor, blackberries, blueberries and spring flowers. Opulent, fleshy, deep and impressively built, it will be drinkable in 3-4 years or can be cellared for two decades or more. Kudos to Fonplegade!

A bold, modern style, with overt spice aromatics and mouthfilling blueberry compote, plum sauce and fig paste flavors. Dark anise and graphite fill in on the finish. Not shy, but pulls it off.-J.M.
