A polished and tangy wine with beautiful fruit, this wine shows a silky texture with fine tannins and a bright finish.

Jeff Loo, JJ Buckley, April 2012

100% merlot. Pinkish purple at the core with slight pink hues at the rim. Owned by the Becot family of Beau-Sejour-Becot, this performed well in this vintage. Opens with aromas of rose petal, smoked meats, strawberry, and spice, with scorched earth and vanilla in the background. The palate is balanced with good levels of acidity and tannins, leading to a flavorful finish. This needs time to develop. Drink 2018-2030.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2012

One of my favorite 100% Merlot offerings, the 2011 La Gomerie is a big wine at 14.5% alcohol. Still young and primary, it exhibits a deep plum/ruby hue along with notes of mocha, incense, vanillin, black raspberries and kirsch. Medium to full-bodied, pure, textured and well-endowed, it may not be one of this estate's top success stories, but it is unquestionably a fine wine. It should drink well for 10-12 years.

By the way, in my review of the 2009 La Gomerie, I incorrectly stated that the vineyard was hit by hail in mid-May. I was told by the proprietors, the Becot family, that was not, in fact, true.

Soft up front but puts on weight as it moves along, with succulent plum and raspberry fruit backed by a good jolt of dark licorice on the finish.-J.M.
