This is well done with blueberry and flowers and spices. Full and linear and well-compacted for the vintage. It has a long finish.

69% merlot, 31% cabernet franc. 13.9% potential alcohol. From a 7.5-hectare estate, average vine age is 42 years, planted in clay-sand and clay-limestone soils. 59% of the harvest made it into the grand vin. Aged in 80% new oak. Deep red color with violet hue. The perfume is magic, with grilled meat and rich fruit mingling with mocha, truffle, and raspberry kirsch aromas. The palate is concentrated, with good depth and fruit concentration. Crushed mineral and an interesting note of hazelnut drive through to the long and pleasurable finish. Drink 2016-2034. Jean Phillipe Fort consults.

Producer Jean-Philippe Janoueix, who does such a super job with his Pomerol, La Croix Saint-Georges, and his generic Bordeaux, Croix Mouton, has this vineyard in fine working form. The 2011 La Confession (69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc) hit 13.9% natural alcohol. Its dark blue/black color is followed by abundant notes of creosote, camphor, blackberries and blueberries intertwined with notions of espresso roast and new oak. With outstanding concentration, texture and ripeness, this medium to full-bodied, surprisingly evolved, delicious St.-Emilion should drink well young and last for 12-15+ years.

Dark, but with solid drive all along the way, as dark boysenberry, linzer torte and blackberry fruit courses along, held together by a prominent graphite spine. Long finish is stuffed with fruit. Impressive effort.-J.M
