Land: A plateau of limestone; bordering slopes with chalk and clay soils.
Grapes:74% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Bordeaux Right Bank, Appellation: Fronsac
Classification: The wines produced at Chateau la Vieille Cure are, as has been the tradition for centuries, fine wines meant for careful consumption. While they can be enjoyed young, they are best appreciated at 4 years of age and more. 10 years is normal, and 15 or even 20 years are not exceptional. With a perfect balance of fruit, aromas and tannins, they are made to be appreciated with meals but can be enjoyed at any time.

Mineral and blueberry character with hints of wet earth. Medium to full body, with fine tannins and a clean finish. Needs a little more fruit in the mid-palate to be outstanding.

The 2011 (mostly Merlot) struts its stuff with a deep ruby/purple color in addition to lots of creme de cassis, mocha and floral notes. Full-bodied with a juicy, opulent personality, impressive purity, a broad, expansive texture, sweet tannin, and enough acidity for definition and vibrancy in the finish, it should drink well for 10-12+ years. The 2011 is a sleeper of the vintage.

La Vieille Cure may well be the reference point for Fronsac given its performances over the last decade. Consistently one of the top two or three wines of the appellation.

About Winery

With its twenty hectares in one single plot, Château La Vieille Cure already appears on a famous map of the Guyenne region, known as the Belleyme map, dated 1780. The vines grow on plateaux and slopes that are lucky enough to be turned to the south west. The estate runs along the River Isle at a height of 65 metres and not only drinks up the sun, but also enjoys good drainage.
