70% cabernet sauvignon, 10% cabernet franc, and 20% merlot. Bright cherry and strawberry highlight a sweet, elegant nose more in the vein of a Margaux style. The red and black fruit on the palate is supported by broad tannins, and with its bright, slightly tart acid, the wine finishes extremely dry. 6-8 years should mellow this out and bring all the elements into balance. Enjoy through 2025.

This is dense with a lovely blueberry and mineral character. Full body, with silky tannins and a long finish. It is dense and very pretty. Well done.

The Langoa Barton is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc cropped at 36hl/ha cropped between 12th and 23rd September. It has a very pure lifted bouquet with fine delineation. It is very feminine with hints of blueberry and cassis just in the background, but there is nice minerality coming through. The palate is rounded on the entry with crisp acidity, hints of pain grille inflecting the black fruit with a seam of graphite on the finish. Tasted April 2012.

About Winery

"chateau Langoa Barton is located in the Saint-Julien commune of the Medoc district.... Nearly 37 acres producing 6,000 to 8,000 cases depending on the vintage...70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot... Langoa Barton uses the traditional methods of fermentation in oak vats with aging of 18 months in oak barrels. 50% of the barrels are replaced each year. This is the same regimen as Chateau Leoville Barton who's wines are made in the Langoa Barton facility and which has the same ownership and management...Chateau Langoa Barton was purchased by the Irishman, Thomas Barton in the 1820's. The Barton Family had been associated with the Bordeaux wine business for over a century at that point. Hugh Barton had been a founder of the negociant "Barton & Guestier" in 1725...Thomas Barton also purchased the neighboring "Second Growth" Chateau Leoville Barton later in the 1820's. Both Langoa Barton and Leoville Barton are still owned by the Barton family today. Anthony Barton took over ownership and management of the properties from his uncle Ronald Barton in 1983. Under Anthony's oversight, both properties dramatically improved in quality from the position of average performers for thier classification to being consistently, very highly rated. Anthony has recently passed ownership to the next generation (his daughter, Liliane) but he remains involved in both properties...Chateau Langoa Barton is the site of all winemaking for it's neighboring sister property, Leoville Barton, since the latter chateau has no winemaking facilities. A new chai (winemaking facility) was put in place by Anthony Barton in the mid-1980s. Unlike many facilities that were built in the 1970s and 1980s in Bordeaux, the traditional wood fermenting vats were retained rather than replaced by stainless steel vats... Elegance and finesse are the hallmarks of Langoa's wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon is dominant but not overbearing or overpowering." www.leoville-barton.com
