Devon Magee, JJ Buckley, April 2012
80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc from the 2-hectare, sandy, clay St. Emilion flats just under La Gaffeliere. Aged in 70% new oak. Cassis and mocha on the nose lead to a super plush mid-palate. This release is all about depth of fruit and richness in its youth, with showy, hedonistic merlot at its most opulent. Drink right out of the gate. Made by M. Lusseau, who looks after the wines of Gerard Perse. Enjoy on release and over the following 12 years.

Blueberry pie with hints of wood and vanilla. Medium to full body, with fine tannins and a clean finish. Little short.

Velvety, modern style, with crushed blueberry and plum fruit and lots of sweet tobacco lacing up the finish. Ripe and showy, but not overdone.-J.M.
