Andy Frieden, JJ Buckley, April 2012

77% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot, 10% petit verdot, and 3% cabernet franc. 12.7% alcohol. Planted on 51-hectares of sand, clay and limestone, with an average vine age of 35 to 40 years. Aged for 14-16 months in 40% new barrels. Nearly opaque purple core with a fuchsia rim. Bouquet of perfumed cherry blossom and cassis eclipsed by limestone minerality. Primary black plum, black cherry, and blackberry flavors on the palate. Sharp tannins on the finish. Denis Dubourdieu consults. Enjoy from 2016 to 2023.

88 -90 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2012

A sleeper of the vintage, the 2011 Meyney (which escaped the hailstorm that devastated the northern Pauillac border and St.-Estephe boundary line on September 1) possesses an opaque ruby/purple color as well as a big, sweet bouquet of black olives, black currants, charcoal and earth. Dense and medium to full-bodied, this classic St.-Estephe offers good acidity and ripe tannin. It should drink well for 12-15 years.

Old timers undoubtedly remember Meyney-s brilliant track record in the decades of the 1970s and 1980s, and it appears things are back on track at this St.-Estephe estate.

90 -93 points,

Wine Spectator, April 2012

This has concentration and depth, with a very gravelly undertow to the dark plum and cassis fruit, all framed by a mouthwatering tobacco edge. Shows depth and drive on the finish.-J.M.

About Winery

Château Meyney is located in St.Estèphe and is owned by Dmes. Cordier. The 49 ha property produces on average 30,000 cases per year. Located in the east of the St.Estèphe appellation, next to Château Montrose, Meney has a similar climate to that enjoyed by the Médoc: maritime, with the Gironde estuary and the Bay of Biscay combining to act as a climate regulator and the coastal pine forests sheltering the vines from the westerly and north-westerly winds...Meyney's vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon 70%; Merlot 24%; Cabernet Franc 4%; Petit Verdot 2%) lie on clay-gravel soils. Vinification includes 15 months' wood ageing, 30% new oak...Meyney is classified as a Cru Bourgeois.
