Here the mineral reduction component isn't quite as pronounced as it shares center stage with the fresh floral and citrus aromas. There is good power to the full-bodied flavors that possess excellent size and weight before ending in a tension-filled, clean, dry and solidly insistent finish.

The 2011 Chablis Butteaux, on the other hand, is all about power. This is a decidedly big, broad-shouldered wine with plenty of depth and sheer fruit, but at the same time the rough, angular contours are impossible to escape. Though not exactly a model of finesse, the Butteaux has considerable stuffing. Apricots, dried herbs and nectarines are layered into a big finish that shows the influence of this clay-rich terroir. Anticipated maturity: 2013+. -Antonio Galloni
