2011 Pazo de Senorans Albarino
Albarino: 750ml
$18.99
about this wine:
Vineyards: In the subregion of Val do Salnes. As is typical in Rias Baixas, vineyards are very small, family owned plots. About one third of the wine is sourced from estate vineyards while the remaining comes from almost 200 growers - all of which have worked with the estate for 20 years and take tremendous pride in their grapes (plus they are paid according to the quality of the grapes).
Harvest: Growers bring sample bunches to the winery to be analyzed and winemaker Ana Quintela Suárez dictates when to harvest. Grapes are harvested in small cases and almost always by women.
Aging: 4 months in stainless steel on the lees

The 2011 Albarino undergoes partial lees aging. It offers a crisp, well-defined, stony nose not a million miles away from a fine Muscadet. The palate is crisp and well-defined on the entry with grapefruit, apricot and fresh limes. There is plenty of weight here, while the finish offers plenty of crisp white peach notes that linger in the mouth. Very fine. Drink now-2016. -Neal Martin

Pale gold. Intensely perfumed bouquet of lime zest, lemongrass, talc, white pepper and chamomile. Sappy orchard fruit and melon flavors are braced by tangy citrus fruits and dusty minerals, with a touch of tropical fruits emerging on the back half. Dry, focused and deeply fruity, finishing with impressive clarity and mineral cut.

Focused and salinic, offering mild white-flower and peach aromas, this feels full, round, fleshy and balanced, with pithy citrus, peach and almond flavors that lead nicely to a smooth, melony finish. This is about as complex as Albariño gets.
