55% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, and 5% petit verdot. Vines are planted on a ridge of alluvial gravel with a density of 8,500 per hectare. All are hand harvested. Beautiful ruby color leads to a bright red rim. Lots of aromatic complexity on the nose, with an array of red fruit, including cherry, dark raspberry, and currant, followed by graphite, tar, anise, and lavender. The palate explodes with character and complexity, with a lovely mix of red berry and baking chocolate. This should benefit nicely from a few years in the cellar and drink beautifully through 2032-2035. Stephane Derenoncourt consults.

Blueberry and spices on the nose. Full to medium body, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Lacks a tiny bit of a center palate.

This sexy, delicious effort is atypically fat, fleshy and opulent for a 2011. While the acidity is present, it is lower than in many Medocs. The wine displays lots of blue, red and black fruits intertwined with a floral note that provides additional complexity. Front end-loaded with a mid-palate and finish that fill out nicely, this beautifully made wine is a true sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 15+ years.

A perfumed wine, floral and flowery. The spices and wood comes from its tannins, which are very present. But there's also friendly berry fruits, plum skins and, on the finish, acidity.-R.V.

Clean and direct in profile, with polished blackberry and black currant fruit melded with a chocolate note. Stays polished through the finish, if a touch light.-J.M.
