This is a relatively discreet wine with an almost reticent nose but one that is wonderfully elegant and pure with citrus and pear aromas that merge into intense, delicious and complex flavors that possess fine depth and excellent length. I very much like the balance and the underlying sense of restraint. A wine that could be enjoyed now or cellared for up to a decade.

10% chardonnay, 50% pinot meunier, 40% pinot noir. 70% of the cuvée comes from the 2007 vintage with 2006 comprising the remainder. Subtle aromas of fresh lemon or citrus blossom along with pears and a touch of yeast straddle a restrained, elegantly structured bubbly that reflects this bouquet. Vibrant and clean flavors of citrus are focused with just a hint of ripe texture that finishes delicately. (Disgorged 2/10)

Geoffroy’s NV Brut Premier Cru Expression is totally alive in the glass. Vibrant and delineated, the Expression bursts from glass with dried pears, flowers, almonds and Chamomile. A blend of 47% Pinot Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir and 13% Chardonnay, the Expression is all about texture and volume from the red grapes, which give tons of richness without detracting from the wine’s essential energy, tension and pure drive. A crystalline, layered finish rounds things out beautifully. This is a great showing from a wine loaded with class. Disgorgement date: April 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. -Antonio Galloni

Light gold. Aromas and flavors of pear skin, toasted grain, hazelnut and orange pith, with a stony nuance and a hint of chamomile. Ample, palate-coating orchard fruit and candied citrus flavors show very good energy and lift thanks to juicy acidity. Clings tenaciously, leaving a suave touch of poached pear on the palate.

Made with 46 percent pinot meunier, this has the sturdiness of a fine me-unier, with scents of acacia and ginger adding to its sparkle. The energy of the limestone soils drives the finish of this wine, lasting with intense fragrance. For langoustines or other creatures from the deep.

This full-bodied wine is packed with citrus and tight, apple-driven acidity, as well as a rich touch of apricot. This fruitiness is balanced by a deliciously refreshing character that creates texture and a steely, minerally feel.

Floral notes mix with flavors of ripe apple, peach, grapefruit zest and biscuit in this lightly chalky, firmly structured Champagne. A hint of smoke shows on the open-knit finish. Disgorged July 2011. Best after 2013. –AN
