Cory Gowan, JJ Buckley, December 2011

Very fine bubbles. A gorgeous pale pink/salmon color, with hints of gold throughout. Shows an ethereal nose of fresh strawberry, cranberry, a hint of orange rind, subtle yeast aromas, and superb concentration. This is utterly phenomenal on the palate, with a rich core of flavor packaged around vibrant acidity, while palate-coating creaminess provides amazing texture and length. A full-bodied Rosé Champagne with wow-factor and a great match for rich food, this 100% Pinot Noir non-vintage is largely comprised of juice from the 2009 harvest.

Geoffrey Binder, JJ Buckley, October 2012

Beautiful pale pink. Loaded with expressive aromas of wild strawberry, maraschino cherry, dried red currant, and a lovely rose petal note. Full-bodied and rich, with a creamy texture and fine persistent bubbles that fill the palate. The flavors mirror the aromas, but also reveal notes of blood orange, other citrus, and raspberry. A mouthwatering, absolutely delicious, and generous style of rose that leaves the tastebuds wanting more.

The NV Brut Rose de Saignee is 100% Pinot Noir from the 2008 vintage. The rich, vinous style is beautifully balanced by the coolness and minerality of the year. This is a gorgeous, complete Champagne bursting with personality and sheer class. The wine boasts fabulous depth and remarkable nuance without ever coming across as heavy. To be sure, this is an intense, bold style that needs to be paired with food. Disgorged July 5, 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018. -AG

About Winery

The south facing hills of the Vallee de la Marne, one of the five major subregions in Champagne, are located a short distance from Epernay, the area's second most important city. This is the home to both pinot noir and the less heralded pinot meunier varieties and it is quite easy for the vineyards here to ripen fully. Rene Geoffroy and his son Jean-Baptiste own about 32 acres planted predominantly to red grapes with about 20% of their vines in chardonnay. Their production of about 11,000 cases makes them one Thiese's larger producers.

Most of Geoffroy's vines are planted in the well-regarded premier cru villages of Cumieres and Hautvillers. Given the high proportion of red grapes grown by the family, it is no wonder that fermentation in wood has been part of the winemaking process for generations. The wines do not go through malolactic so as to preserve acidity which is needed for fruit grown in these warm crus. Compared to the wines of Vilmart, Geoffroy's wines seem a bit less oaky. Nevertheless, the wood component is strong so a good decant may be warrented.
