Shaun Bishop and Michael Stajer founded JJ Buckley Fine Wines as the retail arm of WineCommune — a popular wine auction site first launched in 1999 to connect buyers and sellers. At a time when Amazon and eBay were not yet household names, these partners envisioned an online marketplace where wine enthusiasts and collectors could buy and sell premium and luxury wines.
As WineCommune further matured, the enterprising business partners looked to the future. In 2004, they launched WineZap — a comparison shopping engine that allowed users to search for wines and compare prices across hundreds of retailers.
In 2006, after building a loyal membership and brand for both WineCommune and WineZap, the two founders created their finest collaboration yet: JJ Buckley Fine Wines. The idea was to combine the high level of service and selection found at America's best brick-and-mortar wine stores with prices that traditional wine retailers were not able to offer.
Today, we are proof that online wine retail can rise to excellence. We are proud to employ more than 50 dedicated professionals under the JJ Buckley brand. Our clients, who extend across the country and the world, have come to rely on our trustworthy approach to discovering and offering the finest wines.
JJ Buckley Fine Wines is committed to exceptional value, stellar selection, personalized service, and professional knowledge. We are proud to adhere to the cornerstones that have made us who we are.
In 2008, Inc. Magazine listed us as the "Fourth Fastest Growing Private Food Beverage Company in the U.S." and The San Francisco Business Times named JJ Buckley "The Fastest Growing Private Company in the San Francisco Bay Area." We have also been recognized as one of the "Top 10 Places" to buy wine in America by Food & Wine Magazine and a "Best Online Wine Retailer” winner featured in the 2020 edition of The Wine Enthusiast’s "America's 50 Best Wine Retailers".
Appreciative and humbled by our past, we invite you to join us as we look to the exciting opportunities of the future.
