1998 Cheval Blanc Bordeaux Blend
Reviews of 1998 Cheval Blanc Bordeaux Blend
93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate April 2001 This blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as classic aromas of menthol, plums, mulberries, and assorted black fruits. The oak, texture, acidity, and tannin are all beautifully integrated. While full-bodied, elegant, concentrated, and impeccably balanced, it requires several years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020.
95 points, Stephen Tanzer July 2002 ...Nose shows an almost liqueur-like ripeness, along with notes of bitter chocolate and menthol; a great expression of ripe but youthfully unevolved cabernet franc. Extremely dense and pure but still quite tight and showing a minty austerity. Wonderful acids give the wine superb clarity of flavor. This will require another decade to unfold. Finishes impressively persistent and juicy. Drink 2010 through 2030.
98 points, Wine Spectator January 2001 Subtle, complex and refined, with aromas of cherry, licorice, mineral, berry and other sweet, ripe fruit. Full-bodied and compacted, with masses of fine, silky tannins. Long, long finish. Best after 2010. 8,330 cases made. (JS)

Coloring of dark purple and red. Smells of plum, menthol and
black fruits. Texture not very smooth but very balanced and full bodied.

About 1998 Cheval Blanc Bordeaux Blend
About the Winery Cheval Blanc
Situated in the farthest corner of St. Emilion, bordering into Pomerol. (Appellation Saint Emilion Control...Premier Grand Cru Classe ...One of the rare properties to never have changed hands, the vineyard has been the property of the Fourcaud-Laussac for over 150 years. 15 hectares of land sold by Figeac to Monsieur Ducasse in 1832, and a further 15 hectares acquired in 1837 constituted the future Cheval Blanc. In 1854 Mademoiselle Ducasse married Monsieur Fourcaud-Laussac. On this occasion 5 hectares were added to the domaine which henceforth sold the wine under the name of Chateau Cheval blanc. Since this time, the heirs of Fourcaud-Laussac have run the domaine."
