90 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate January 2002 This dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 is a modern day clone of this estate's wonderful 1962. The 1999 reveals forward, open-knit notes of creme de cassis and earth. It is fleshy, medium to full-bodied, and succulent, with supple tannin, excellent balance, as well as a long, pure, ripe finish. This seductive effort will drink well for 12-15 years, possibly longer.
90-93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate January 2000 Lynch-Bages has fashioned their sexiest, most succulent effort since the hedonistic fruit bomb produced in 1990. Displaying a dense purple color as well as low acidity, this blackberry and cassis-flavored 1999 possesses a fat, juicy mid-section, and outstanding purity, ripeness, and glycerin in the long finish, which oozes over the palate with no bumps. The tannin is well-concealed by the wealth of chewy fruit. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, approximately 75% of the production made it into the final wine. Anticipated maturity: now-2015
89 points, Stephen Tanzer May 2002 ...Plum, redcurrant, cedar, cigar box and tobacco on the evolving nose. Pliant and sweet, with moderate depth and dimension. Can't match the later vintages for verve or inner-mouth complexity. Finishes with dusty tannins and good length.

About 1999 Lynch Bages Bordeaux Blend
About the Winery Lynch Bages
"The Lynch-Bages estate (90 hectares) is located just outside the city of Pauillac, overlooking the Gironde estuary, on one of the most beautiful gravelly outcrops in the appellation.
The well-drained soil consists mainly of Garonne gravel. The sub-soil (marl, chalk, and thick clay-sand gravel, or hardpan) forms a solid, but fairly disjointed foundation, enabling the roots of old vines to grow to a depth of 6-8 metres."

About the Wine
"Almost opaque wine. An imposing concentration of ripe fruits mixed with smoky undertones. Firm tannins are hidden by the richness of the fruits and its balancing acidity. A powerful wine."
