2002 Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
Reviews of 2002 Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
90 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate December 2005 The Alexander Valley cuvee is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in new oak. The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley offers abundant quantities of spice, vanillin, cedar, herbs, and smoke, soft, round, creamy-textured flavors, good black cherry and currant notes, and a spicy, medium-bodied, easy-going personality. Enjoy it over the next 7-10 years.
91-93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate February 2005 The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is richer and fuller bodied than the 2001, with a more muscular structural overlay. Less evolved and not displaying the pungent, spicy notes of the 2001, it offers loads of new oak, cassis, dried herb, chocolate, and fruitcake notes. Give it another 1-2 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following 10-14 years.
90-92 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate December 2003 The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley, recalls some of the winerys top efforts from the mid-nineties. A deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a sweet nose of chocolate, toasty oak, dried herbs, and a sweet, textured, medium to full-bodied palate. This nicely layered, rich, plump Cabernet will be at its finest between 2004-2012.

Life is a Cabernet October 2007
I'm a Silver Oak 'junkie,' I must admit. Opening their wine is never disappointing!
Color: This wine is a deep garnet, with bright, pink edges
Nose: You can definitely smell the oak, blackberries, and perhaps a tiny hint of chocolate? Evolved over the 30 minutes or so in the glass to a slightly sweeter oak/smokey scent.
Palate: Smooth with a moderate finish. Ripe fruits, blackberries, cherries, and a slight hint of tobacco. Coats the tongue nicely.
If you've never had Silver Oak, it is a *must try* wine! And visit the wineries in Alexander Valley and Oakville! The AV winery folks were incredibly nice and generous with their time and wine! |

About the Wine
"The 2000 growing season will be remembered for the harvest that wouldn’t end. A mild spring induced even flowering and a good set. By mid-September it had warmed up and harvest was in full swing. Then the weather shifted radically and the end of September was unseasonably cool. Extra time on the vine was beneficial for wine quality and harvest was finally completed on November 1st, the longest in our 29 year history.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: The 2000 Alexander Valley is a classic, rich Cabernet Sauvignon with a ruby-red color and an expressive nose of cassis, blueberries, blackberries, soy sauce and vanilla. It is luscious and full-bodied on the palate and has an incredibly long finish of ripe berry fruit, vanilla and a hint of dill. This wine will continue to improve until 2018 given proper cellaring. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon"
