2005 Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes Blend
Reviews of 2005 Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes Blend
Alex Lallos, JJ Buckley April 2007 Wine Advocate - 2005 Château de Suduiraut 93
This does not quite match the showing back in 2006 at the vertical but it remains an impressive wine. Touches of yellow flowers and citrus fruits on the Germanic nose. The palate is rich and unctuous, laden with botrytis with great intensity on the finish. Minerally aftertaste. This is a great Suduiraut. Tasted April 2007. Neal Martin
Mike Supple, JJ Buckley August 2008 Ripe pineapple and mango accented by toasty caramel and lots of spice on the nose. Rich, sweet and mouthfilling with loads of pineapple, banana and apricot. Dense and rich with enough acidity to keep it lively.
92 points, Stephen Tanzer July 2008 ($90-$119) Medium yellow-gold. Incredibly sweet aromas of apricot, acacia honey and marzipan. Supersweet, round and fat, but with enough ripe acidity to leaven the wine's huge impression of volume. A powerfully fruit-driven Sauternes with superb depth, but it's almost too rich today. Finishes with palate-staining sweetness and length and surprisingly fresh acidity (I suspect the actual acid number is low). I'd give this 15 years in the cellar. This is carrying a high 165 grams per liter of residual sugar, and the percentage of new oak was raised from a normal 35% to 65% for this vintage, and yet the wine does not come across as woody.
93 points, Wine Spectator March 2008 Shows dried pineapple, honey, pear, caramel and piecrust aromas. Full-bodied and very sweet, with spice, coconut, tropical fruit and apple tart flavors. Long and dense, yet lively. Best after 2013. 6,500 cases made
About 2005 Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes Blend
About the Winery Chateau Suduiraut
"Chateau Suduiraut takes its name from the Suduiraut family, who owned the chateau in the 18th Century...The Suduiraut vineyards cover 92 ha of a possible 200, lying at the southern end of the commune of Preignac. The terroir is mainly sand and gravel, and the vines are 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, with an average vine age of 25 years. The nearby Garonne provides the mists that engender the Noble Rot. Harvesting at Suduiraut takes place earlier than many other chateaux, a practice that causes a few eyebrows to rise. Yields are typically less than 18 hl/ha. In the cellar, Pierre Pascaud will Chaptalise if required. The wine is largely fermented in stainless steel, but some aliquots see fermentation in oak. The wine is racked the following spring and will spend up to two years in oak. The grand vin here is Chateau Suduiraut..." www.suduiraut.com
