From a 7.5 acre parcel of the La Bienfaisance vineyard, Sanctus is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc that is exposed to all the cutting-edge, yet traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques. The dark purple-colored 2006 possesses ripe, chocolaty, black currant fruit interwoven with hints of licorice and underbrush, medium to full body, and rugged, elevated tannins as well as noticeable new oak in the finish. While it is currently in a disjointed stage, there is plenty to like in the bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026.

Bright medium ruby-red. Subtle aromas of cassis, black cherry, dark chocolate and flowers. Broad and ripe but classically dry, even a bit youthfully austere-not a bad thing in this vintage. This builds impressively toward the back, finishing with big tannins and a rich chocolatey flavor. 90-92 points
