2007 Angelus Bordeaux Blend
Reviews of 2007 Angelus Bordeaux Blend
Alex Lallos, JJ Buckley April 2008 62% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc. 25 hectare vineyard with 38 year old vines planted in clay and limestone soils.100% new oak. Beautiful ruby red color from core to rim. The nose has a lot of nicely integrated aromas of wood, fruit, and crushed earth. Delightful and full bodied, this effort has some power to it without being too heavy or over-extracted. Minty and fresh on the mid-palate with some nice berry flavors as well. Less tannic on the end, but this should make it accessible within the first few years of bottling. 10,000 cases. Michel Rolland Consults.
90-93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate April 2008 Rated - No tasting note given.
89-92 points, Stephen Tanzer May 2008 (approximately 61% merlot, 37% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon) Good bright ruby. Superripe aromas of plum, kirsch, violet and chocolate. Fat and soft but with lovely freshness and good depth to its flavors of black cherry, cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate. Finishes with big, tongue-dusting tannins, a note of licorice, and excellent length for the year. No shortage of power here, but will it have enough verve for outstanding?
88-92 points, Wine Spectator April 2008 Berry, mineral and licorice aromas and flavors. Medium body, fine tannins and a medium finish. Very well done for the vintage.
About 2007 Angelus Bordeaux Blend
About the Winery Angelus
A scant kilometre
from the famous bell-tower at Saint Emilion, on its renowned
south facing "pied de cote" (foot of the hill)
site, Chateau Angelus is the story of a passionate
involvement of the last four generations of the Benard
de Laforest family.
The estate's name derives from a particularly ancient plot
of vineyard, from which the men tending the vines were able
to hear the angelus ringing out from all three of the village
churches, chapelle de Mazerat the church of Saint Martin de
Mazerat and the church of Saint Emilion.
