2008 Rieussec Sauternes Blend
Reviews of 2008 Rieussec Sauternes Blend
Alex Lallos, JJ Buckley April 2009 Wow what a beautiful pale golden color (clean and clear). Absolutely intoxicating aromas of peach, ripe citrus, and apricot confiture. Shows tons of botrytis but remains fresh and lively on the mid-palate. Lots of toasty marshmallow and charred oak with everything in the right place (and in the right proportion). Loaded with fruit, but replete with the proper acidty… Delicious and rich
91-93 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate April 2009 The 2008 Rieussec has a lifted, honeyed, slightly petrolly nose with great definition and lift. Touches of white flowers and white peach/honeysuckle develop with further aeration. The palate has a vibrant orange and mandarin flavored entry, very good balance, nicely poised with touches of vanilla inflecting the viscous, honeyed fruit on the finish. Classy but the oak obfuscates this Rieussec at the moment.
92-94 points, Wine Enthusiast April 2009 Rich rather than sweet, this is stuffed full of botrytis. The wine is powered through with this dusty texture, rolling richly but catching the dried fruit character
89-92 points, Wine Spectator April 2009 Rich and layered, with honey, caramel, botrytis spice and vanilla aromas and flavors. Long and very flavorful.

About 2008 Rieussec Sauternes Blend
About the Winery Rieussec
"Château Rieussec is one of the richest and most exotic of all Sauternes, producing particularly good wines in the late 1980s and the mid 1990s. Rieussec has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild since 1985 and is located at one of the highest points of Sauternes in the village of Fargues where its vineyards border those of Château d`Yquem.Rieussec's 75 hectares of vineyards are planted with 89% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle. Yields are low and the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and oak casks before being matured in oak barriques (70% new) for 18-24 months. Rieussec produces a classic full-bodied Sauternes that is deep golden-yellow in colour and packed with lusciously sweet, honeyed fruits. Classsfied as a 1er Cru Classé, its best vintages rival those from d`Yquem."
About the Wine
"This fine, top drawer, Rothschild owned estate has produced a blockbuster '89 with an intensly perfumed nose, luxuriously rich palate and the ability to age for decades. A wine of serious breeding."
