(NM95-96 points) One of a number of outstanding Clos de Vougeot in 2005 from Mortet’s vines situated near the Chateau de la Tour (just 5 barrels.) The nose is subdued although Arnauld mentioned it was due for racking. Scents of blackberry, cherry, bacon fat and a touch of hedgerow, with a faint hint of dates developing. The palate is very powerful and pure with stunning delineation. Pure black cherries, cassis and a touch of violets. Filigree tannins, feminine and delicious, it utterly seduces the senses. Wonderful wine that should drink earlier than some of the other Mortet 2005’s. Drinking 2010-2030.
