What a wine for the vintage, with spices and furniture wax undertones, then dried citrus fruit. Great intensity in this, powerful stuff. Perhaps the best 2005.

Wine & Spirits, October 2008

Bright gold. Perfectly balanced. Not sweet, and yet explosively sweet with flavors of fresh nectarine, scents of jasmine and honeysuckle. The sweetness pours out of the freshness, so it's impossible to taste them apart...

Wine Enthusiast, June 2008

Picked over a period of eight weeks this wine shows the class and care resulting from such efforts. Citrus and white flower aromas lead to a wine that is not overtly rich with subtle shades of botrytis and orange...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, June 2015

Still quite young, decanted 4 hours in advance, this is still young, fresh and lively. Loads of pineapple, apricot, vanilla and honey in the perfume. The wine is unctuous in texture and long in the finish. Read more...

(93+) The quality of the botrytis is very exciting in the 2005 Suduiraut, as it seems very clean and really lifts the aromatics on the wine at this early stage. The simply beautiful bouquet offers up a classy mélange of...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, September 2011

Tasted on several occasions most recently at home the Suduiraut '05 is slightly deeper in colour than the 2007. It has a rich almost decadent nose with a conspicuous veneer of vanillary new oak underneath which lies honey...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, June 2015

Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Suduiraut seemed a little out of sorts at first, although it comes together with honey, barley sugar, orange blossom and mineral scents that become...

Wine Spectator, March 2008

Shows dried pineapple honey pear caramel and piecrust aromas. Full-bodied and very sweet with spice coconut tropical fruit and apple tart flavors. Long and dense yet lively. Best after 2013. 6500 cases made

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, February 2017

Tasted blind. Lightly cheesy, exciting nose. Great weight on the palate with unctuous texture and reverberation. A tad brûlée. Finishes just a little suddenly.

This Sauternes estate originally took the name Suduiraut in 1580, upon the marriage of Nicole d’Allard to Leonard de Suduiraut. After being plundered and burned down during the Fronde insurrection, in the 17th century it was rebuilt and renamed Cru du Roy by a nephew of the Suduiraut family, who planted magnificent formal gardens designed by Le Notre, King Louis XIV’s renowned gardener. The estate was designated Premier Cru status in the 1855 Classification.

AXA Millesimes acquired Suduiraut in 1992 with the aim of preserving and perpetuating the estate’s remarkable tradition of vineyard management and winemaking. 92 hectares of vineyard are planted in sandy, gravelly soil superbly suited to Semillon and Sauvignon grapes. Semillon, which represents 90% of the Suduiraut vineyard’s vine population, is the preferred variety for Sauternes. Its very thin skin is particularly sensitive to the Botrytis Cinerea that gives rise to noble rot, which in turn results in a wine which is concentrated both in sweetness and aroma. The blend is then rounded off with the addition of about 10% Sauvignon Blanc.

The vines’ age (a majority of them are over 30 years old) is a guarantee of exceptional quality, giving well-nourished and more concentrated grapes.

Classed as a Premier Cru in 1855, Suduiraut’s grand vin is made from 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc selected from the finest terroirs of the property. This wine is hand crafted at every stage, revealing remarkable finesse and complexity, and a golden color reminiscent of the sun that made it possible.

With age, the bright gold evolves to a dark amber color. With an extensive life-span, Suduiraut powerfully and harmoniously combines fruit and floral aromas with roasted and candied notes. Its superlative elegance comes from a combination of total opposites: voluptuous texture, mineral freshness, and the gentle warmth of spice notes.
