The only Gigondas produced in the vintage, the 2008 Gigondas shows the cooler nature of the vintage in its peppery herbs, underbrush and sweet black fruits, and it has an almost Burgundian-like purity, precision and complexity in its balanced, thoroughly enjoyable profile. Interestingly enough, this vintage saw more new oak in the vintage, whether due to the blend or just a desire to add more oomph, I'm not sure, but it certainly works nicely, and the oak is far from obtrusive. Elegant, seamless and silky, it's a huge success in the vintage and should continue drinking nicely through at least 2020. - Jeb Dunnuck
