A blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc from vines in clay over limestone planted in 1947 this wine exhibits loads of chalky minerality and a stunning nose of espresso blackberry mulberry and kirsch. Elegant with superb definition and a rich full-bodied mouthfeel this effort has put on considerable weight since I tasted it from barrel. Unfortunately the production is under 1500 cases. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2032. 97+

A wine that shows structure richness and warmth. It has such ripe black fruits with generous tannins concentrated texture and acidity. It is melding into a floral spicy opulent whole.

A blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc the VCM '11 has a wonderful mineral-rich bouquet that is very well defined with black truffle fresh fig and dried herbs all wrapped up in precocious dark cherry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a very svelte texture a keen thread of acidity and an opulent ravishing finish of dark cherries liquorice and black truffle. Very persistent in the mouth. Tasted April 2012.

Dense sweet and fat with fruit; in a slightly chunky style but lifted by a limestone quality. Very chewy solidly built wine with a lightly saline firmly tannic finish. This fruit bomb should offer considerable early appeal.

Aromas of blackberries and sweet tobacco follow through to a medium-to-full body with firm tannins and a juicy finish. Well-made. Try after 2015.
