2010: From a microscopic vineyard owned by Catherine Papon-Nouvel this blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot achieved a remarkable 15.4% natural alcohol. There is not a trace of new oak despite the fact that it is from 100% new barrels at Clos Saint-Julien. Mineral-dominated this dense purple wine has precision and remarkable freshness for a wine that is so big rich and concentrated. Once the Cabernet Franc starts to show nuances probably not for at least another 4 or 5 years this could be one of the shockingly great wines of the vintage. Sadly though there is so little of it most people will never have the chance to taste it. This is exciting and should last 25-30 years.
