A powerful selection, this is dominated by tannins. Under the firm structure, there is a fruity aspect that will develop. It has the potential to evolve into a full-bodied, intense wine that maintains a sense of elegance.

Sweet, lush and silky, with good energy to the sweet red fruit, herb and mocha flavors. A seamless 2010 with ripe tannins and noteworthy persistence. An excellent result for this chateau in 2010, and a terrific value. Alain Raynaud is now consulting here.

Solid, with a core of raspberry and steeped blackberry fruit inlaid with anise, apple wood and wood spice notes, all backed by a well-integrated graphite edge on the finish. Drink now through 2020. – JM

Consistently better than its humble appellation, this excellent wine from proprietor Jean Guyon offers up plenty of black currant fruit intermixed with cedar wood, licorice and incense in a medium to full-bodied, surprisingly concentrated and expansive style that should drink nicely for a minimum of a decade or more. There’s no need for patience with this sleeper of the vintage, given the sweetness of its tannins, attractive glycerin and fruit levels.
