Mint, celery seed, jasmine and rose petal are in the nose of Domaine Weinbach's 2011 Gewurztraminer Cuvee Laurence, shading into caramelized celery root, quince paste and banana on a subtly creamy and expansive as well as quite overtly sweet palate. With greater sap and persistence than the corresponding Cuvee Theo, this thickly yet buoyantly carpets the palate, with marzipan and white pepper adding to the already mentioned herb and flower-tinged quince and celeriac for a hauntingly bittersweet and complex finish. Plan to follow it through at least 2030. - David Schildknecht
