Exhibiting more graphite and oak, the 2011 Reserve Francis Courselle is a larger-scaled effort with more structure and density. About 70% new oak is used to age this blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Slightly higher in alcohol than its sibling (13.5% versus 13%), it is a dense, spicy, rich, well-balanced wine without a trace of herbaceousness. Vanillin and graphite characteristics from the new oak are present in this sleeper of the vintage. Like its sibling, it over-performs for its humble pedigree. It should drink well for 5-6 years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
