Wine Enthusiast, March 2016

This impressively powerful wine has dense tannins and concentration. With 74% of Cabernet Sauvignon, it is firm, packed with black-currant fruits with intense, perfumed acidity. Cabernet Franc adds spice to the wine...

jamessuckling.com, February 2016

Extremely fine and complex for the vintage with blueberry, black currant and mineral aromas and flavors. Racy and refined backbone of tannins. Long and subtle. Drink in 2019.

Decanter, February 2023

This gloriously located estate always delivers full-bodied and powerful wines, and despite a more slender frame in 2013, the same is true in this vintage. Very deep in colour, it shows ample oak and blackcurrant fruit on...

janeanson.com, December 2022

The rule that in difficult vintages you should go to the best estates is more than amply proved here with the 2013 Las Cases. Even the colour takes you far away from the usual expectations of a year when pretty much...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2014

Better than many of the Medoc first-growths, the 2013 Las Cases was harvested relatively late, between October 2 and 17. It is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. Only 40% of the...

The Wine Independent, August 2023

The 2013 Leoville Las Cases is medium garnet colored with a touch of brick. It slowly unfurls to offer scents of violets, fallen leaves, and spice cake over a core of blackcurrant pastilles and dried cranberries with a...

Vinous, August 2023

The 2013 Léoville Las-Cases has the finest nose of the three Léoville: the best delineation and focus with more complexity and slightly more fruit, though it is still very "classic" in style. The palate is medium-bodied...

One of the oldest Medoc estates, Domaine de Leoville belonged to some of the wealthiest and most influential noble French families before it was acquired by the Las Cases family. Like many properties after the French Revolution, the estate was divided between 1826 and 1840 into the three Leovilles we know today: Leoville-Las Cases, Leoville-Poyferre and Leoville-Barton.

Chateau Leoville-Las Cases was created, thanks to a kind of birthright, from three-fifths of the original estate, including the very heart of the property. The Grand Vin has therefore been sourced from the best part of the original terroir since the 17th century.

Pierre Jean, Adolphe, and Gabriel de Las Cases were successive heirs to the property until 1900, when Theophile Skawinski purchased a share in the estate and became its manager. Leoville-Las Cases has now been managed by the same family since the late 19th century and is today represented by Jean-Hubert Delon, sole owner of the chateau and proprietor of Chateau Potensac in the Medoc and Chateau Nenin in Pomerol.

The Grand Vin is the product of exceptional terroirs from the heart of the original Leoville estate. These are located mainly in the Clos Leoville-Las Cases, which you pass as you leave the village of Saint-Julien for Pauillac. They extend over nearly 60 hectares producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a complex, polished expression and characteristics which are totally unique to the Grand Vin of Las Cases.
