88+ The 2014 Estate Riesling Trocken from the Dönnhoffs came in at 11.5 percent alcohol, which gives it a lovely shape and bounce on the palate. The bouquet is still youthfully primary, but offers up fine potential in its mélange of grapefruit, tart orange, lovely soil tones, a touch of wild yeasts and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is medium-full, pure and reveling in its elegant structural tension, with a solid core, fine acids and impressive length on the vibrant finish. The grapes for this bottling hail mostly from volcanic soils, rather than slate.
